Hi there! My name is John and I’m committed to mastering the art of creative financial planning. While I enjoy working with clients from many industries, I’ve found my level of expertise especially informative for individuals involved in construction and construction-related businesses. By working with individuals from these fields, I can confidently design customized financial strategies that encompass estate planning, retirement and benefit analysis, investment planning and business succession planning.

Speaking of which, here are a few my proudest accomplishments in the field:

  • Being covered in The Wall Street Journal.
  • Obtaining a spot on the “Four Under Forty” in the United States as shown on the cover of Advisor Today Magazine.
  • Becoming a quotable thought leader among numerous publications.
  • Presenting at multiple industry and non-industry events across the country.

I am currently a member of the Financial Planning Association, NAIFA and serve on the Finance Committee for the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). I am also an advisor to the Monsignor Ronald C. Bill Scholarship Foundation and was recently selected by the Alumni of Hobart College as a candidate for Trustee. Previously, I acted as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club of Syracuse.

I am often a featured speaker at national symposiums as well as local media and organizational programs that benefit clients, colleagues and the community.

My continued goal is to build and hone in on my unique ability, which includes focusing on my prime skills in helping clients.

My Story

I began my career as a traditional commission-based advisor after graduating from Hobart College in 1995. The work required of me as an advisor was nothing new. That’s because I learned about the importance of hard work and perseverance through my father, who worked as a steamfitter for 45 years.

After working purely on commission, I realized that I could better serve my clients by focusing on their unique objectives rather than trying to get the next sale. As a result, I transitioned Custom Wealth Management to a fee-based planning approach in 2002 that focused on providing estate retirement as well as investment and business owner planning strategies.

The real impact of this shift in thinking, as shown through my clients’ success, lit a desire in me to help other advisors do the same through fee-based planning. That’s when I decided to collaborate with Dan Sullivan, the respected founder of Strategic Coach, to refine the processes of Custom Wealth Management into what it is today.

By 2010, Custom Wealth Management had developed to a point where other advisors could take on its in-depth process and adapt it to best fit their needs and the needs of their clients.

When reflecting on the success seen by Custom Wealth management, I’d like to think that my greatest achievements derive from the things I did because of my frustration with particular aspects of the finance industry. The biggest of them all is the realization of how little the consumer understands about different types of advisors.

Outside of the office, I love to travel and be in the water, specifically at my lake house with my wife Kristin, sons Andrew and Cooper and daughter Paige.

Did You Know...

I have traveled to all but four of the 50 states. I have yet to visit North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming or Montana.

Cheers! My name is Alix and I’m Custom Wealth Management’s CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(R) and Trivia Maven. That means I oversee the fee-based planning process, our operations & procedures, serve as a client contact and team trivia instigator. Along with my financial planning and trivia prowess, I’ve got a knack for creating and implementing processes that have led me to be a sought-after speaker on workflows and practice efficiency.

My Story

I obtained my undergraduate degree from the University of Rhode Island, Magna Cum Laude in 2007 (Go Rhody!) I went on to complete my Juris Doctorate degree at Syracuse University in 2010 and my CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER(R) certification in 2019. All this really means is that I spent a lot on making sure I have the education to serve my clients. Before joining CWM, I practiced law focusing in Estate Planning.

I currently call East Syracuse, NY home and have one roommate, Gus (a very stubborn Shiba Inu). I like to think of myself as active because I've run 1 half-marathon and completed 1.5 high peaks in the Adirondacks. 

I am securities and insurance licensed as well as a non-practicing member of the New York State and New Jersey State bars.

I didn’t have a name for the first week and a half after I was born. My family just called me “Cupcake” until I was named!

My Story

For some background, I went to Boston College on a baseball scholarship (thankfully, no Tommy John surgery for this pitcher), but discovered I pitched better in the sunshine when I transferred to Florida Southern College. After earning a B.S. in Financial Management in 2009, I went straight into the financial services industry and haven’t looked back! 

I hold the Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF) designation from the Center of Fiduciary Studies. This designation is awarded to candidates who have undergone significant training and education on the roles and responsibilities of Retirement Plan Fiduciaries and the laws that govern Fiduciary issues. I am also Series 7, 6 and 63 licensed.

I am currently on the Board of Directors for the Syracuse Silver Knights Foundation Inc, serving the Central New York community by creating athletic and creative educational youth programs, that strive to enrich the lives of deserving children and provide opportunities which motivate them to live up to their potential, and help guide them towards a positive and well-rounded future.

In 2013 I was presented with the Forty Under 40 award which recognizes 40 young leaders under the age of 40 who excel in the workplace, volunteer, and give back to the CNY community. Part of that giving back includes coaching boys little league baseball in Skaneateles with some familiar faces I was lucky to grow up with.

Most of my spare time involves spending time with my wife Candice and daughter, Lennon. My family currently resides in Skaneateles, NY and we love exploring, trying new restaurants and staying active.

G’day mates! My name is Andrew, but most people just call me Hodge, and I’m the Operations Specialist at Custom Wealth Management. My co-workers consider me to be an indispensable part of the team because I have my hand in almost every aspect of the practice. This includes managing the fee-based process, coordinating back-office logistics and being the go-to person when someone just needs an extra hand. I also work with advisors and teams around the world that have adopted our trademarked planning process to help them serve their own clients.

My Story

I obtained a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from SUNY Fredonia in 2009. I joined CWM in May 2011 as a part-time intern and became a full-time team member a year later. My time with CWM has been very exciting for me, as I’ve had the privilege of watching the team grow in team members and the firm evolve with the times. I currently have a New York State Life and Health License.

Outside of the office, I am active in the community and held a position on the Village of Manlius Zoning Board of Appeals until a recent move. I love music, attending live concerts and a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer and golf.

Hello! My name is Candace and I’m Custom Wealth Management’s insurance specialist and executive assistant. In this role, I assist new and existing clients with their insurance needs. I am currently New York State life and health insurance license.

My Story

I graduated from Onondaga Community College in 1997 and continued my education at Syracuse University majoring in Health and Exercise Science. In 2008, with 9 years of experience working for an Estate Planning Law firm in Syracuse and being life insurance licensed, I joined the team at Custom Wealth Management.

In 2014, I left the team to concentrate on being a mother to my beautiful daughter Lila. Being a partner of Sister Fitness in Baldwinsville, NY, and opening a cleaning service kept me busy with a flexible schedule. Now that my daughter is older, I rejoined the Custom Wealth Management team in January 2019 and am thrilled to be back!

Hi there! My name is Erik and I’m a wealth advisor and retirement plan administrator here at Custom Wealth Management. I help CWM clients achieve their ideal retirement strategy. I do this by working with their employers in managing a retirement plan suitable for their needs through the proven 401k Fiduciary process.  In addition, I conduct investment analyses for client portfolio optimization; as well as, comprehensive financial planning for all types of clients. I am securities licensed.

My Story

My earliest understandings of the business world came at a very young age. My family owns a locksmith/security company in my hometown of Buffalo, NY. I decided to alter my career path from entering the family personal security business to delivering financial security to individuals and families across the country.

I am a graduate of the revered Madden School of Business at Le Moyne College with a Bachelors degree in Finance and Management Information Systems. I began working with CWM as an intern in February 2016 and became a full-time team member in June 2017.

In my spare time, you can find me getting a sweat on in the gym, on the side of a mountain hiking or snowboarding, or at a gathering with friends and family to cheer on the Buffalo Bills! (This is a year-round duty that requires jumping through fold-up tables🤣 )

Greetings! I am the Executive Assistant to Dan Bennett, helping to keep our commitment to you by streamlining communication. When interacting with me, my goal is for you to feel like you’re getting Ritz-Carlton level of attention, no matter the simplicity or complexity of your service needs.

My career in financial services began in 1979, so I bring with me over four decades of witnessing market cycle emotions and experiences. Throughout the years I’ve served as a Bookkeeper, Office Manager, Personal Assistant to the General Agent Emeritus, and Group Insurance Specialist and I have yet to meet a challenge I couldn’t help a client overcome. I currently hold my New York State life, accident and health insurance license. 

I’ve been happily married to my husband of 31 years who, believe it or not, I met on a blind date! We have two children and reside in the Town of Frankfort. When time allows, I enjoy reading, crafting, and traveling. Greece is up next on my bucket list!
